Welcome to J M Lazim Art Gallery

Digital painting is an emerging art form in which conventional painting techniques such as acrylic, charcoal, pastel chalks, watercolor, oil etc. are applied using digital equipment like computer, a Wacom digitizer tablet with a stylus pen, and painting software such as Corel Draw Painter, Fractal Design, Expression plus Adobe Photoshop and few other programs.

Conventional painting is painting with a physical medium such oil paint on canvas, water color on paper, an easel and palette as opposed to a more modern style like digital. Digital painting differs from other forms of digital art particularly computer-generated graphics, Digital painting does not require the artwork to be rendered unlike AutoCAD, 3D studiomax which requires the computer rendering from a model.

Digital artist uses painting techniques by combining his artistic talent, creativity with his skill in computer technology to create the digital painting with the help of the computer. The painting application program for producing digital paintings try to imitate the use of physical media through various brushes, palette knife and paint effects on virtual canvas, water color papers. Included in the software are several hundred brushes, paints, water colors, pastel chalks, canvas, papers and many more other media and artist materials all are stored in the computer hard disk drive. Various sizes brushes and brush strokes are all provided in the painting program, what the artist need to do is just choose the appropriate materials and medium of the intended painting and start painting.

Million of colors and hundreds of brushes, canvas are all in kept systematically in the computer. Unlike the conventional painting the artist will need a huge room to store all his art materials and to have million color paints the artist would probably need a warehouse for his paints and art materials. In a conventional painting every time the artist finished his painting, he will need to wash and clean-up all his brushes to prevent from hardening, but not with digital paintings, the artist don’t even need to worry about his hands and clothes gets dirty by smudges of the paints and oil.

When painting using the digital painting program the artist will do his best to use built-in digitally styles textures and brush strokes representing the conventional painting styles of an acrylic, oil paint, Rembrandt pastels, charcoal, pencil sketches, water color and even air brush. If an artist chooses oil on canvas for his digital paintings, with smart uses of digital styles, strokes and texture, upon completion the digital painting will look almost similar to traditional painting with the look of a wet paint effect styles. Or if its water color digital painting, the artist can apply the style of water color dripping on paper effect.

There is no limit as one artist can do using digital painting program with a computer to create his master piece; in short it depends on your talent, creativity and skill to produce great looking digital paintings. Almost all digital painting software allows the user to create their own brushes and strokes using a combination of texture, shape and style. These features are of significant importance in bridging the gap between conventional and digital painting.

Digital paintings are usually created with high resolution dpi so that the end result when it’s printed out, it will not show the pixel and will look almost similar to a traditional paintings hanging in the museum and art galleries.  An artist can put his signature on his completed digital paintings just as it were on most other traditional paintings.
Limited edition digital painting created by the artist using high resolution and with his signature on it will cost more than those normal poster and graphic prints on sale in many art stores including those in IKEA Sweden Furniture store.
Just as it is in the real world of conventional paintings, in digital paintings there also similarity as the type of painting an artist wants to create like, portraits, still-life, impressionism, cubism, realism, expressionism.

In this fast changing world of technology, people must have the options to decide and choose between digital paintings and conventional paintings. It all depends on a person requirement, main objective, time frame, and budget, Take for example for someone who has just bought an apartment and has a budget constraint on interior finishing. The apartment owner requires a beautiful painting within a short period of time to decorate his living room the painting must compliment with his interior concept, furnishing and color scheme. In this particular case, digital painting is the solution, because it can be customized to compliment and match the interior concept and color scheme, it can be done by the artist within a short time and it’s affordable and will look just like an ordinary conventional paintings. Once the digital painting is professionally printed out, mounted and framed with an artist signature on the paintings, it looks perfect.

Another scenario a budget hotel with 100 rooms opening in three months time requires every room to be provided with one paintings that must compliment with their interior concept and color scheme, no conventional artist will be able to do the job simply the artist need a minimum of six to twelve months to complete all th2e 100 paintings, not only that the conventional painting will cost the budget hotel owner 10 times or more than the cost of buying digital paintings.  Furthermore it has been a common occurrence that original traditional paintings got vandalized or even stolen from the room. It will make good economic sense to use digital paintings for this kind of budget constraint and rush project.

In my previous blogs i have include some of my latest digital abstract paintings with some of my non abstract paintings as reference. Thanks to the digital technology that has opened tremendous opportunity for me to communicate, promote and sell several of my digital paintings to various people and organization around the globe. Nowadays almost everything in our daily life is process and done by computer. Is no more essential for a musician, a composer or a singer to have musical instruments like drum, guitar, saxophone, piano, etc., in order to create music or produce a song these days, what they really need is just a studio, a software application like Catwalk, a powerful imac computer, an electronic keyboard, a mixer, good sound system and recording equipment to do the job.

The same goes with art and paintings, an artist would still be able to draw, sketch and paint and produce beautiful master piece within a short period of time without the need of a real canvas, easel, brushes and paints
Artists no longer have to worry about dirty their hands with paints and having to built a huge warehouse to store their art materials. Millions of colors, brushes and palettes can now be stored in the computer hard disk.
With Corel Draw Painter,(formerly known as Fractal painter), Adobe Photoshop an image editing software, Expression and few others software couple with Wacom Digitizer Pad and a stylus pen, a powerful desktop computer, plus a large format printer an artist would be able to produce excellent quality, high resolution digital paintings for the mass market.

Limited edition, high resolution, beautiful digital paintings with signature of the artist look almost similar to the original water color or oil paintings display in the art museum and galleries. The distinction between conventional and digital paintings, digital paintings are faster to produce, can be customized to compliment with the color schemes and concept of the interiors and its more affordable to own compared to conventional paintings. There is no limit as one can do with digital paintings, the real challenge is on your talent, inspiration and creativity.

Take for example of a Budget hotel owner who requires hundred over rooms to be decorated with paintings within a short period of time, if conventional paintings were chosen, its definitely going to cost the hotel a fortune, not only that, there will not be consistency for all the paintings and the artist would probably took few years to produce conventional paintings for a large scale order of this size. In most cases, customers cannot wait.

Conventional paintings cost more and often being damaged, vandalized or even stolen by some irresponsible hotel guests, it does not make good economic sense to put very expensive conventional paintings in every room where the risk of the painting being damaged or stolen remain high. To have all these conventional paintings insured is not justifiable.

If you come to think of it, digital painting is still a very good solution for this kind of situation.  High resolution limited edition digital paintings with artist's signature are certainly a very good option for interior decoration of hotels, banks, offices, home, cafe, pubs, bars and restaurants. You may have seen many well established fast food outlets around the world are using digital paintings for interior decoration of their restaurants.

Thanks to the technology, I have successfully combined my artistic talent, creativity with the skill i have obtained in information technology to produce fine quality, high resolution and limited edition digital paintings for the mass market and customers around the world.

I look forward to increase my customers portfolios globally through this social media platform made available to me and to the rest of the world.
